The ICON A5 is a two-seat high-wing flying boat type amphibious monoplane designed and produced by ICON Aircraft in the United States. The prototype of A5 made its first flight in July 2008 and the first production A5 made its first flight in July 2014. It has been produced well over 100 units to compete with power sports vehicles, rather than other airplanes. A5 has a carbon-fiber airframe, retractable landing gear and it is powered by a single 100 horsepower (75 kW) Rotax 912 iS engine with a three-bladed propeller. The wings can be folded to save space for ground transport and storage periods.
The ICON A5 is not meant to go far, fast, or carry much load, it is designed for fun. Take-off and landing are possible from ground to water and vice versa. The maximum speed for A5 is 95 knots (109 km/h) and the flight range with full tanks of fuel (76 liters) is somewhere 427 nautical miles (792 km). The maximum take-off weight being 685 kg (1,510 lb) there is an allowed payload of 195 kg (430 lb) for the pilot, passenger, and fuel needs.
The ICON A5 is flyable in the next generation of Microsoft Flight Simulator Standard, Deluxe, and Premium Deluxe Editions.
